  • Guided Mural Trolley Tours -The 8-block Main Street Business District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the background for a fascinating tour through Ashland’s history as seen through the eyes of Ashland’s mural artists Kelly Meredith and Susan Prentice Martinsen. Trolley Tours are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Pick-up Location in the parking lot of the Bay Area Civic Center, 320 4th Ave West. The tour will be approximately 75 minutes long. Tickets are purchased on the Trolley. Cost: $5.00 per person.  Children under 6 are FREE!  (Cash only accepted, you pay on the Trolley.)     Copper Falls Naturalist Programs. Join us in kicking off the season on Saturday, 10am-12pm to Paddle with the Naturalist on Loon Lake! The “Discover Loon Lake” series looks at a range of issues offering a chance for participants to learn more about aquatic plants, loons, bogs, and frogs in a family-friendly exploration of the lake’s diverse shoreline.     Blessing of the Fleet Ceremony: History comes to life with the traditional Blessing of the Fleet Ceremony, as commercial fishing boats, tugs, powerboats, sailboats, excursion  crafts, kayaks, and rowboats parade through Bayfield’s City Harbor. As they pass by the tip of the pier, clergy from the Apostle Islands community will grant each vessel a blessing for safe passage and a prosperous season on Lake Superior. All boats in the Chequamegon Bay area are invited to participate. The service begins at 1pm in Memorial Park. 2 Rittenhouse Avenue, Bayfield. From there, the clergy proceeds to the City Dock to begin the Blessing of the fleet. All are welcome at this event. Ashland County’s 29th Annual Cleansweep Hazardous Materials Collection, Northland College 1411 Ellis Ave., 2-6pm.  Ashland County residents, businesses, farms, and schools can bring toxic and hazardous products to this event. Most can be disposed of at no charge, although some items (fluorescent light bulbs, batteries) charge a small fee.  Check the web site for more information about what materials are and aren’t accepted. Farms and businesses need to pre-register by calling Northwest Regional Planning Commission at 715-635-2197.  Help keep dangerous products and chemicals out of our local waterways and landfills by disposing of them safely at this event! Residents of neighboring counties can participate in Ashland County.   Also accepted are controlled medications and prescriptions, and over the counter medications. We will visit 6-8 sites throughout the park where our night light quality measurements will be taken in preparation for Dark Skies Designation for Copper Falls! Our walk will be minimally invasive to the nocturnal landscape and wildlife during this critical spring nesting/mating season. We will walk quietly in open spaces, not disturbing the landscape with noise or unnecessary artificial light. Bring your red headlights/flashlights and binoculars.     American Legion Riders Wisconsin Cruise for a Cause, Stu’s Cruise ’24.   9-10:15am in Ashland, WI.  60 riders will be traveling from their homes to Superior, WI for the WI Legion Riders-Cruise for a Cause, Stu’s Cruise’24.  Over the next few days, June 28-30, they will ride with the goal of raising funds for two great veteran support programs: Wisconsin American Legion Troop & Family Support Fun and Wisconsin American Legion Auxiliary – Homeless Women Veterans Gran Fund.  They will be driving thru Ashland around 9am Friday, June 28 and parking at the Chequamegon Veterans Center, 211 6th Street West, Ashland until 10:15am. We are not sure of the exact route, but they will be passing the Chamber Office – so if you would like to come and hang out with us around 9am and cheer them on come on over – our office is 1716 West Lake Shore Dr.  Otherwise go the Chequamegon Veterans Center, 211 6th Street West, Ashland – they will be there until 10:15am.  If you would like to make a donation, make your check payable to the American Legion Foundation and either, mail it or drop it off at the local Post at 211 6th Street West in Ashland. No amount is too small or large! They take cash too!

    Friends of Copper Falls State Park presents On the Trail with Wildlife from 10-11:30am.  Come for the family-friendly intro to the wild friends who share the park’s habitat.  Afterward, if you’re interested in learning more, explore one of the less traveled trails with the park’s naturalist. You’ll look for signs of wildlife, learn about forest communities and track down some fun! Meet at the ballfield parking lot in Mellen.  Well behaved pets are welcome.
