    Cable Natural History Museum. Discovering Moss (Master Naturalist Advanced Training) Spend a cozy autumn weekend at Forest Lodge learning about the identification and ecology of mosses and lichens with Professor Joe Rohrer, Biologist Mary Bartkowiak, and Cable Natural History Museum Naturalist Emily Stone. The training begins at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday and will engage students in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. All meals are included. Registration cost is $220 with lodging at the historic Gatehouse, and $160 for commuters. You don’t have to be a certified Master Naturalist to participate! Any adult learners are welcome.     Vaughn Public Library presents: Learn the Art and Craft of Telling your Story. 5-7pm(Oct.4), 9am-2pm(Oct.5) Just add water! Everyone has stories to tell, but crafting your experiences into powerful memories that you want to share, again and again, is an art. Join storytelling expert and producer of Love Wisconsin, a multimedia storytelling project of Wisconsin Humanities, for an interactive workshop that will help you share stories that celebrate your love for the Great Lakes.     All Aboard the “Loose Caboose” Kids’ Fun Run! Calling all young adventurers aged 11 and younger for a FREE community-supported event! It’s time to lace up those sneakers, warm up those little legs, and get ready to race in our 1/2 or 1k foot race! Join us at Central Railyard Park from 5:30-7:30pm for a blast! Our course will take you on a journey around the Central Railyard Park Ballfields, behind the Bretting Center, and will be filled with fun surprises along the way.     WhistleStop Blues & Brews Fest and Celebration!  All in the heated festival tent in the Bay Area Civic Center parking lot. Time to be determined. Listen to the blues music of “MilkBone” while sampling scores of microbrews (You must be 21 years of age or older to attend this event). Then following MilkBone, the final celebrations when the WhiteCaps take center stage.  Pre-purchased tickets for the Blues and Brews Fest are $10 with the brew sampling and $15 at the door. $5 without the pre-purchased brew sampling and $10 at the door.  Not up for Brew tasting.  You are welcome to come to the tent and enjoy the sounds of MilkBone and the WhiteCaps.  Concessions will be available for purchase!

Republic Services will provide dumpsters at: 11th Ave W. between 3rd & 5th St. 8am-1pm, Civic Center Parking Lot 320 4th Ave W 8am-Noon, Stuntz Ave behind the old Ellis Fire Station 8am-Noon, and Public Works Facility 2020 6th St E. Must provide proof of residency. Examples of items to drop off for free: apliances without freon, no-food household trash, old patio sets, kitchen tables and chairs, nonpadded furniture, mattresses, couches, recliners. These next items are only accepted for a fee at the Republic Services Transfer Station-405 Industrial Park Rd. Appliances with freon-$40, Tires-Auto $20 each, Large truck tires $30 each, Electronics, fluorescent bulbs-prices vary. Construction/demolition material-$10/pickup; $30 single or double axel trailer.     Copper Falls State Park annual Candlelight Walk at Copper Falls 6-8 p.m. Visitors are invited to seek out the mysteries of the night as they hike along a one-mile stretch of candlelit trail where over 300 candle luminaries light the path. The Community Services Team at Tamarack Health is thrilled to invite you to our Harvest Festival! 3-7pm at Tamarack Health(1615 Maple Ln.) and Northwood Tech(2100 Beaser Ave). Rain or shine, this event is designed to bring our community together and showcase our facilities and services while promoting wellness and family-friendly activities. This collaborative effort includes partnerships with Northwood Tech, the public library, and local vendors. The festival will feature helath screenings, wellness booths, and educational resources to assist our community in living healthier lives. Families can enjoy a variety of activities, including face painting, pumpkin painting, and interactive booths. Additionally, the Harvest Festival will highlight the specialty services offered at Tamarack Health and provide an excellent opportunity to engage our community.     Cable Natural History Museum. Pastel Painting—Explore Winter Landscapes. Use your own color photos of winter landscapes as inspiration to create unique pastel paintings on paper. From 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Cable Natural History Museum, you’ll explore the art elements of value and color in your composition as you interpret the landscape, creating the illusion of three-dimensional space on a flat paper surface. The instructor, professional artist Diana Randolph, will demonstrate these concepts and will share fascinating tips including how to use other tints of color instead of white when depicting snow! You’ll practice many pastel painting techniques by layering pigment on various types of pastel paper. You’ll have the opportunity to view the Museum’s current exhibit, “Anaamaagon: Under the Snow.” The supply list may be viewed online. Space is limited.
