  • The East End Ice Rink hopefully be opening sometime in January.  Located at 16th Ave E & 5th St E.  Lights will be on nightly from dusk to 10pm. Warming house will not be open.  Any questions call 715-682-7059.
  • Bay Area Civic Center Open Skate – Wednesdays 7:30-9pm   $5 per skater.  Skate Sharpening available for $5.
  • Copper Falls: Wednesday Night Ski from 5-7 pm, December 2023 thru February 2024.  Join Friends at the trailhead near the park office for a casual ski of the Meadow Trail loop with local ski enthusiasts. Check ahead for weather and trail conditions. Remember to bring your headlamp because the trails are lit only by the stars and moonlight. Friends will provide treats and hot cocoa.   • 01/01/2025
    Every month there’s something to do at Copper Falls. To welcome the new year, the North Country Trail Association, Wisconsin DNR, and Tyler Forks Community Forest will host a guided First Day Hike with refreshments at the trail’s end. Gather at Copper Falls State Park Red Granite Falls Trailhead. Ring in the New Year snowshoeing beautiful wooded trails. There will be a 2 mile and 4 mile option. Dress for the weather and bring your own snowshoes. Enjoy a warm fire, hot cocoa, and treats after the snowshoe.

    Dribbling Dockers at the Ashland Elementary School Gymnasium, 9:00-10:00am. Dribbling Dockers registration is FREE for all K-2 students. this is an introductory basketball program.  The goal of this program is to teach fundamental skills of the game of basketball to youth in fun, organized and educational ways.  This class is taught by adult coaches and High School students-athletes from the Ashland High School boys’ and girls’ basketball programs under the direction of the Ashland Athletic Department.  Dates are January 4th, 11th,18th, and 25th.   Any questions email Ricky Bretting at rickybretting@gmail.com.  Looking forward to seeing all the kids in the gym!  Halftime performances are January 28th when the Girls Varsity takes on Cameron (7pm start time) and January 30th when the Boys Varsity takes on Ladysmith (7pm start time).

    Cable Natural History Museum. Becoming a Natural Gardener. A natural garden isn’t complete without native plants. Join Master Gardener Sue Reinardy to learn about the trees, shrubs, and flowers who provide important shelter and food for beneficial insects, birds, wildlife year-round. We’ll also talk about the timing of seasonal events. By using your phenological observations, you can predict the best time for planting, the blooming cycles of plants, and the emergence of insect pests.     Landmark Conservancy & Mt. Ashwabay: Candlelight Snowshoe Hike and Nordic Ski. 6-8pm. Bring your friends and family for a magical adventure in the Northwoods! Candlelit luminaries will guide your way along a one-mile loop, groomed for Nordic skiing and snowshoeing. Particpants are encouraged to grab a bite to eat or a beverage after their hike and enjoy a bonfire! Please bring your snowshoes or Nordic skis, warm winter clothing and footwear. There are bathrooms, snowshoe and ski rentals, food and beverages available at Mt. Ashwaybay. 32525 Ski Hill Rd, Bayfield.     The Brick Ministries present: Taste of the Bay 2024. 7-9pm at Northland College Ponzio Campus Center. Enjoy a fun evening featuring samples of food from local restaurants and caterers from all over the area, and support The BRICK at the same time! All proceeds go toward serving under-resourced community members through The BRICK’s emergency food and financial assistance programs. Limited tickets at $30/person are available through The BRICK, its Board members, Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce, and Moores on Main. Winter weather is no issue. Once again, complimentary valet parking is provided courtesy of Ashland Ford Chrysler, and complimentary coat check is provided by Ashland Area Farmer’s Market!     Cable Natural History Museum. Beautiful Flowers on the Shore: Managing invasives, planting natives, and controlling buckthorn. From the shoreline to the hilltops, there is a lot that we can do here in the Northwoods to provide habitat and improve our lands. Michael Sinclair will share the expertise he’s gained from working with local landowners to control invasive species like buckthorn, yellow iris, and purple loosestrife. They will be doing a performance clinic with the students and then put on a show! Opening acts will be the Ashland High School Concert choir and the Lake Effect Show Choir from Ashland High School.
