    Friends of Copper Falls State Park. Join us on New Moon Night Walk and enjoy night skies in the park! Meet at the park contact station at 8 pm. We will visit 6-8 sites throughout the park where our night light quality measurements will be taken in preparation for Dark Skies Designation for Copper Falls! Our walk will be minimally invasive to the nocturnal landscape and wildlife during this critical spring nesting/mating season. We will walk quietly in open spaces, not disturbing the landscape with noise or unnecessary artificial light. Bring your red headlights/flashlights and binoculars.     Professor Hike: Master Naturalist Advanced Training; Join Cable Natural History Museum Naturalist Emily Stone on a spring wildflower hike where participants become the teachers! This activity has been wildly popular as part of Master Naturalist courses. During a leisurely hike on a flat trail, Emily will train each student to be a “professor” of a small, unique topic. Join a field trip with retired US Fish and Wildlife Biologist Tom Doolittle and WDNR Fisheries Biologist Nate Thomas to visit a “Case Study in Watershed Restoration” along 20 Mile Creek.     “Poetry and the Natural World with U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón” at the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute/Northland College, Ashland.  6:45–8:30pm.  FREE event (via Zoom, with local introduction)  The Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters has invited Ada Limón to speak in person in Madison, but is  also arranging “Watch Parties” such as this, for those who can’t attend the live event. Dr. Kyle Bladow, Associate Professor of Native American Studies at Northland College, will host the local event with introductions and readings of a few poems. The event is free of charge, sponsored by the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets.  Ada Limón is the 24th U.S. Poet Laureate. She has been appointed for a two-year second term through April 2025. She is editor of an anthology You are Here Poetry in the Natural World, out on April 2, 2024, as well as the author of seven books of poetry, including her latest The Hurting Kind (2022).     Memorial Day Remembrance Walk and Ceremony at MIHPA Veterans Memorial Garden-Please join the Madeline Island Historical Preservation Association immediately following the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Town Dock, LaPointe from 11:30-12:30pm. We will walk from the Town Dock up Colonel Woods Avenue to the MIHPA Heritage Center. There we will gather around the Veteran’s Honor Garden for a flag raising ceremony, songs by the summer choir and the laying of new pavers in the Honor Garden.
