Tamarack Health

Tamarack Health is a locally-led, community-based health organization serving the medical needs of the northwest Wisconsin with main medical center campuses in Ashland and Hayward and an outreach clinic in Superior.

Like the tamarack tree, our name reflects how we differ from other health care systems in our region. It celebrates the deep roots of Ashland Medical Center and the Hayward Medical Center in their respective communities. It embodies our independence and local leadership. It solidifies our unified commitment to do more, be more and innovate more so that we can have a greater impact on health and wellbeing of the broader region we serve together.

The Ashland Medical Center (AMC) operating since 1972, is a not-for-profit organization, providing a critical-access hospital, several specialty services and behavioral health services including a 10-bed inpatient unit and outpatient services. The organization has over 60 full-time physicians on staff, and over 650 total employees.

The Hayward Medical Center (HMC) established in 1953, is also not-for-profit, with a critical-access hospital, specialty services and primary care clinic. Water’s Edge Senior Living is an important part of the Hayward Campus providing long term skilled nursing care and independent and assisted living options. HMC has over 30 full-time physicians and over 510 employees.

In 2024, Tamarack Health will expand services by opening primary care clinics in Cable, Ashland and expanding the primary care services in Hayward with a new clinic on the medical campus.

Each week the Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce highlights a business on Heartland Communications radio station WATW 1400AM and Bay Country 101.3FM. The Chamber draws a name at random from our membership and the radio station writes a 30-second ad exclusively for that business.
